We have a few new additions to our class....iPads!!! We have been using them daily in our classroom during literacy and math centers. We LOVE them!! Below are a few pictures of the students using them.
We are currently working on a global community project with other elementary students from around the world. The video featured below is our urban community postcard. We will be sharing this digital postcard with other students around the world to show them what it's like to live in the Bronx.
Book Projects
1. Design a new book cover: include title, author, illustrator
2. Write a letter to the author of the book telling them what you liked about the book and what you would change.
3. Draw your favorite scene from the book and write about why it was your favorite.
4. Write a different ending to the story.
5. Retell your story using a flow map using words and pictures.

We live in a world where everything is in motion, or so it seems. But not everything is moving the same way. Some things move from one place to another, others go around and around and some things are stationary. For the past two weeks, the students have been building spinners to test how and why they spin. Below are some videos of their investigations.
In art this week, Ms. Vaiman had the students create life size murals of themselves. The students traced each others bodies on butcher block paper and then began painting them. I will post pictures of the completed murals when they are finished. Check out the work the students have done so far....
I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to those special people who made generous donations on our Donors Choose website to help fund our Circle of Compassion project.
Humane Education creates a kinder world for all. Mahatma Gandhi said it best, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." With this project, I want my students to develop empathy and compassion for all living things.
The money that was donated helped me in purchasing books to teach about humane education. These books are valuable resources that my students need to help them make positive changes in society. Having these books, will help my students understand how and why we should respect an animal's life. The books I have received will teach my students about animal rights, safety, care, responsibility, and abuse. I am encouraging my students to foster a sense of responsibility and become animal advocates. It is my hope that they will become compassionate citizens in their communities, and society.
